    Greetings!

Thank you for your patience with me getting the class notes out as we have lately been experiencing technical difficulties with the website.

    First, a few notes:

    1) We are pleased to announce that rehearsals for our FIRST EVER Team ITM Formation team will begin next Wednesday in preparation for the upcoming Disney Showcase on May 14th. If you are interested but not already signed up, please contact Adam Immediately.

  • Smooth Class 1/16/2016: Tango Week 1

***Please Note…Due to family illness last week, this was our first week of the tango. Because tango is a unique dance in the repertoire, I want to make sure everyone has 4 weeks to work through it. Therefore, we will go an extra week (March 8th) and do our special class on Friday only that week.

    1) Exercises:
-Spine lift and shift (weight over different parts of feet)
-Tango walks with “staccato” action: foot stops in between, DOES NOT brush like
    Foxtrot.

    2) Choreography:
Leaders start facing diagonal wall against line of dance, followers start backing diagonal wall against line of dance…
-Basic with slight curve, Promenade turning left to Throwout, Underarm fan, basic with strong curve, promenade turning left (leaders end diagonal center), (open) reverse turn with outside swivel.

This is a rather intricate routine. Give special attention to positions and body timings in order to dance it comfortably with a partner.

    Cheers!

-cucarachas: action comes from knees, then hips
-add arms by elbows opposing hips

    2) Choreograhy:
Box into cross-body lead (hand turns down and out); spiral action ending open to leaders right/follower’s left, then chasse; 4 circular walks (s,q,q,s) swiveling to face leader; 3 walks straight forward to closed position; quick underarm turn to right, then left; walkaround turn to left, then right; leader’s underarm turn to right, follower’s underarm turn to right; 5th position break; box.

  • Rhythm Class 1/29/2016: Merengue Week 4

The clarity in everyone’s leg and body action has improved DRASTICALLY over the past 4 weeks. Continue to hone this skill in your practice so that it becomes muscle memory. I look forward to taking this skill into the American Rumba.

  • Rhythm Class 1/22/2016: Merengue week 3

Continuing our work on the choreography, we worked this week to hone our chasses (side together steps) and our forward and backward walks. This work is foundational to the American Rhythm style and I am so proud of everyone’s progress and focus this week. Bodies and understandings are changing and I am so excited for our continued progress this year.

Do you want to get the most out of your classes? Do you routinely show up early? In most movement classes it is customary to warm up the muscles, get the mind in the space and sometimes stretch before class begins. Not sure where to start? Take a few deep breaths and borrow some exercises from this series or a past series that you have found beneficial. Then, review your choreography. You will be amazed how much more focused and productive your time in class will be.

  • Smooth Class 1/19/2016: Waltz week 3

This week everyone showed marked improvement in their movement and memory of the choreography this week. For those who missed this week, we added nothing new but spent considerable time dancing the piece with different partners and applying skills from our exercises. I cannot wait to see everyone’s final video next week!
